Purpose:
The Carteret Numismatic Society (CNS) formed in 1998, we are an organization devoted to the promotion of the historical and scientific knowledge associated with coins, currency, medals and other items utilized as media of exchange.
Activities:
The Society meets monthly on the first Wednesday to conduct its business, share
numismatic events and experience educational programs. Each month one segment
of the meeting is devoted to an informative special numismatic presentation by
one of the Society's members or a guest speaker. Film, video and slide
presentations are utilized. An extended social session allows members to trade
and swap both information and materials. After the Meeting adjourns a formal
auction is held.
Exhibits that display special numismatic themes are placed in libraries,
financial institutions and schools, festivals and coin shows.
The Society helps in the identification and evaluation of numismatic items presented by the public and in the acquisition of needed literary materials for public school libraries. Assistance to Boy Scouts in receiving their Merit Badges in numismatics is available. In addition members are available to give presentations in their particular specialties to other local and state numismatic and non-numismatic organizations.
Coin shows are supported by the Society one or more times per year in the local area. Dealers sell and buy coins and other numismatic items, competitive and non-competitive exhibits are displayed. Free informational material is made available and educational presentations are conducted.
